Zahra's story
It was her first Christmas without her family. Zahra had fled the civil war in Syria with her family, but life was hard in Australia too. Instead of finding safety, there was violence at home. She eventually ran away and was living in an abandoned warehouse when she first came to Barnardos. She was stealing food to survive, wasn’t attending school and felt worthless… like she didn’t matter.
Barnardos Youth Worker, Katia, worked incredibly hard with Zahra to help her find accommodation and return to school, turning her life around.
